MAYOR'S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR JANUARY 00:01:08

MAYOR TO PRESENT JANUARY AWARD OF EXCELLENCE Mayor Chris Beutler today will present the Mayor’s Award of Excellence for January to William Maul, a StarTran Journey Mechanic. The award will be presented at 3 p.m. at the beginning of the City Council meeting at the County-City Building, 555 S. 10th Street. The monthly award recognizes City employees who consistently provide exemplary service and work that demonstrates personal commitment to the City. Maul, who has worked for the City since 2009, was nominated in the categories of valor by Bus Maintenance Superintendent Glenn Knust for helping to save the life of his co-worker. One morning in December, Maul saw a co-worker sit down and complain of a terrible headache. A short time later, the co-worker gasped twice and slumped over in his chair. When Maul discovered the co-worker was not breathing, he immediately called 911. He then began CPR as instructed by the 911 operator until paramedics arrived about three minutes later. Knust praised Maul, saying his “quick and deliberate actions saved the life of his co-worker.”
